Frequently Asked Questions

ShearRings can improve comfort, control, and precision for hair stylists and pet groomers. Below are answers to common questions about sizing, fit, and professional use of shear ring inserts.

✨ What’s New in ShearRings Sizing?

We’ve expanded our sizing system to make it easier than ever to customize your grip!

• XS–L = fits your shears
Choose the outer diameter that sits securely inside your shear handles.

• 1–4 = fits your fingers
Each number represents a level of support — from light grip to firm, cushioned stability.

• New sizes include XS1, S1, M1, L1, L2, L3
Ring sizes are engraved directly onto every ring for fast, easy identification.

Not sure where to start?
If a ring slips through your shears → size up.
If it feels too tight or firm on your fingers → choose a lower support level.

See our ShearRings Size Guide for more information.

What’s the difference between standard inserts and premium ergonomic inserts like ShearRings?

Basic finger inserts (often included with shears) can provide a basic barrier, but they typically don’t offer tailored sizing or ergonomic support. Premium ergonomic inserts like ShearRings are designed with multiple support levels, a precise sizing system, and materials that conform to both the shear handle and finger shape. This helps deliver better comfort, lasting durability, and improved grip performance compared with generic inserts.

Are shear ring inserts worth it?

Yes — shear ring inserts can significantly improve your comfort and control while using shears. ShearRings help customize the fit of your shears so that your fingers don’t slip or slide inside the finger holes, which can reduce fatigue during long cutting or grooming sessions.
Many professionals find that properly sized inserts help prevent calluses, improve precision, and make repetitive cutting more comfortable and ergonomic.

Why do shear ring inserts help comfort and control?

Shear ring inserts fill the gap between the shear handle and your finger so that the shear feels more secure and ergonomic in your hand. Without proper fit, your finger can move around in the hole, which leads to grip instability and can cause strain over time. Inserts create a snug fit tailored to your finger size and your shear’s handle shape, helping improve cutting control and reducing hand fatigue during extended use.

How do I know if I need shear ring inserts?

You might need inserts if your shears feel loose, slip while cutting, cause finger discomfort, or lead to hand fatigue after repetitive use. Inserts are especially helpful for professionals who use shears all day, as they help stabilize grip and reduce pressure points that can lead to pain or calluses. If your fingers feel uncomfortable or your shears don’t fit securely, trying the right size inserts might improve your comfort and cutting efficiency.

Can shear ring inserts help with hand strain or fatigue?

Yes — by fitting your shears more snugly, quality inserts help distribute pressure more evenly across your finger. This can reduce localized stress and minimize hand strain during long hours of cutting or grooming. Many professionals find that repetitive use of properly sized inserts leads to less fatigue and greater comfort, especially during back-to-back appointments or extended grooming tasks.

Will ShearRings fit into my shears?

When you are fitting them into your shears, remember that the rings are made of this material for a reason! If they don't fit, try sizing up/down and don't be afraid to manipulate them into place; they will mold to the new shape!

We're always working to develop new solutions to enhance the ergonomics of haircutting.

Can I use ShearRings if I have a swivel on my shears?

Yes! Swivel or no swivel, you can elevate your cutting game with ShearRings.

How many sets of ShearRings will I need?

This depends on what sizes of rings you end up liking and how many pairs of shears you have. We recommend one set per shear to begin. This way, you'll receive 1 of each size, and you can decide what works best for you!
